We all know how important it is to take care of our skin and it all starts by cleaning it, but really, how many times should you be doing it and what should it look like? This tips and routine will be perfect for the summer since during this season we tend to hurt more our skin with the sun as well as sweat a bit more as a result of the same.
How often?
Day
Each day you should be cleaning two times, one when you wake up and the other before going to bed. You are probably wondering why you need to clean it in the morning if you were sleeping all night and cleaned it before bed, but the problem with skipping that one is that you may absorb some oils and dirt from your pillowcase since they are naturally going to accumulate unless you change it every day and if you are going to apply makeup or any type of product, such as moisturizer and sunscreen, you need to have a clean face. Also, if you work out in the mornings or wear acne products at night like me, you want to make sure you get rid of all the sweat and product in the morning since some creams are not meant to be exposed to direct sunlight.
Week
Added to your daily routine you will need to scrub 2 or 3 times a week. This is a great to go above and beyond with the cleansing process since it gets rid of all the dead cells and leaves your skin feeling super soft and clear. However, make sure you don’t overdo it since it can become really harsh on your skin and end up irritating it and making it dry and red.
Another thing you could do weekly is use a face mask. Face masks are great because they target specific problems such as pore control or acne, as well as help moisturize and brighten your skin so using one based on your needs will help intensify the skin care routine and, again, target the specific problems.
Month
Something you could do once a month is a full facial, whether you do it at home or go to a specialized center to get one. The good thing about facials is that is basically an all-in-one skin care treatment that both deep cleans the skin as well as target specific problems. Whichever option you choose to do it at you want to really research about it and make sure it will actually help your skin and not end up doing more damage. Since it is such a deep process it can be really rough on the skin if done too often or if the wrong products are used, which is why you want to be careful.
Which products?
The main products you want for your daily routine are micellar water, a cleansing lotion, and a toner. Think of it a story that has beginning, middle, and end instead of a one-step process. The micellar water is going to help pre-clean and get rid of the most superficial dirt, the cleaning lotion is going to go in a little deeper and finally the toner is going to get rid of those impurities that are still left. This way you have a fully clean face ready for any product that you want to apply next.
Now, when it comes to you day routine what you want to be applying next is moisturizer and sunscreen. Do not skip these! After cleaning your face your skin is really sensitive and needs a little bit of love which your moisturizer will do. If you never apply moisturizer after cleaning your face your skin will start developing other problems since it is so exposed and dry, which is why it is so important. Next you want to do your sunscreen which for obvious reasons you can’t skip either. Sun damage is no joke and it is one of those things that you don’t notice the harm immediately but trust me, one you will. Make sure you find the right formula for you since you don’t want to have your skin look oily or heavy from the moisturizer and the sunscreen but you also want to have enough coverage from the sun rays.
Finally at night after cleansing your face you can either leave it like that and just apply moisturizer to let your skin rest or you can apply treatment creams such as the ones for acne or wrinkles. I tend to alternate these two options since I have very sensitive skin and I tend to really hurt it if I use acne cream often, but every skin is different so find what works for you. There’s also many masks that are meant to be left all night so you can also apply them after your cleansing routine.
