Honestly I’ve known about bath salts for years now but refused to try them. To me it was one of those things that people use just for a cool Instagram story but at the end of the day don’t really work. However my opinion changed after having a few roommates who swore by them constantly telling me to try them. One day I finally caved into the trend and decided to give it a try. I was trying to relax from a stressful week and have a good night sleep which at that time I hadn’t had in what felt like ages. So I filled my bathtub with warm water and bath salts and guess what – it actually WORKED!
I decided to start doing some research to understand their effect, the different kinds of salts and their benefits (etc), so here goes my guide with a few recommendations.
What are they?
Bath salts typically come from the evaporation of ocean water, making them more pure and higher in mineral contents than regular salt. The main minerals found are magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium and zinc, among others, which are necessary for our health. Most bath salts have essential oils and other natural ingredients added to them to maximize results or target a specific benefit. For example, to detoxify you might find one with clay while to relax and sleep you might find them with lavender. Among the different benefits we have:
- Decrease Stress
- Relax Muscles
- Skin Detox
- Natural Sleep Aid
- Moisturize Skin
Here are some salts that are effective but won’t break your bank. All of these brands have different options so, again, make sure you read what they are good for to choose the best one for you.
